Visiting El Yunque National Forest

Nature is healing. There is research that shows that visiting El Yunque in Puerto Rico restores health. There is so much oxygen and clean air that it allows your cells room to regenerate and heal. Feeling down or blue? Now sure what to do when you visit Puerto Rico? Spend a day in this magical place!

From the drinks on the way, to the pincho stand by the entrance (go see Ivan! He knows his stuff!) to the trails and waterfalls you experience on your way to the top, be sure to have the proper shoes, pants and hydration to conquer this rainforest,

Nested in the tops of Rio Grande by Luquillo, El Yunque offers education, beauty and... of course, hiking in nature! From small trails to challenging ones, be sure to wear the correct shows (hiking boots that do not slip and a a hikin stick helps!). Trails are muddy, wet, and slippery (it is a rainforest!) and the trails are "one person - one way" which means you will either be getting out of the way for someone to pass, or trying to pass around folks and you do not want to slip and fall down a mountain! (Not recommended!).

We used KEENS for this trip and they are light, waterproof and comfortable! The hike up was nice and shady. The last trek up to the viewing tower can be challenging, and if you really are an avid hiker, there are extra trails to get to the other side. Bring bug spray and snacks. The humidity can make you feel tired and the bugs love to say hello to sweaty visitors! Would be visit again? Mpst definitely! Will we stop and get pinchos from Ivan on the way up and back? You better believe it!
